This position is located on the campus of the State University of New York at Old Westbury. Employment, payroll and benefits are through and subject to the Research Foundation for SUNY policies and procedures. The Research Foundation for SUNY is a private educational corporation.

The Research Foundation for SUNY is seeking a Social Worker for a Department of Education Basic Needs grant.  This is a full-time, twelve (12) month position, grant funded position.  The position is grant funded until December 31, 2025.

The Social Worker will staff the Panther Community Care Center (PCCC) located on the SUNY Old Westbury campus.  The Social Worker will provide students with support, advocacy, resources, referral to resources, and assist them with problem-solving.  This position will act as the coordinator of our wellness initiatives.  Additionally, the Social Worker meets with any student in need of an emergency financial assistance grant for basic needs such as transportation or food. 

The Social Worker will:

  • Work with students to provide support, assessment, advocacy, resources, referral to resources, and assist with problem-solving.
  • Develop and implement wellness initiatives during fall and spring semesters, in coordination with other campus stakeholders.
  • Utilize Single Stop technology.
  • Assist with food pantry operations.
  • Assist with campus student emergency fund efforts.
  • Work with students requesting emergency financial assistance to assess their need and engage those students with other campus and community resources.
  • Maintain a caseload of students in need of intensive support.
  • Assist with student support groups.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities that focus on mental health issues, diversity, and strengthening families.
  • Supervise a small team of student employees to support the success of the office.
  • Serve as an active member of the Panther Community Care Center and engage with the campus community to promote services.
  • Engage with College colleagues, committees, and the campus community to promote services.
  • Maintain programming, recordkeeping, and data management.
  • Assessment of resource center and initiatives.
  • Keep up to date with community resources for referral and networking.
  • Occasional evening hours may be required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Social work license at the LMSW level or higher.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience coordinating programs, developing, and implementing new services, assisting students in crisis, and balancing competing priorities of student intervention and program implementation.
  • Experience responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Evidence of success in building collaborative relationships and conducting assessments.
  • Knowledge base surrounding resources and referrals.
  • Experience maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with people served.
  • Ability to work evening hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience distributing emergency financial assistance.

 


Additional Information:

Salary Range:    $60,000 - $65,000 commensurate with education and experience and includes a comprehensive benefit package.

The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
