Position Description

The MFA in Dance educates the whole dance artist. Through the lens of a liberal arts curriculum, the program's values are shaped by the quest for truth, authenticity and community-building in a holistic model that integrates mind, body and spirit. The MFA in Dance offers two unique MFA degrees in dance: Creative Practice and Design & Production. Creative Practice has a low-residency option and the Design & Production MFA is the only one in the country specifically for dance.

Responsibilities:

Saint Mary's College seeks to hire an Instructor to teach PERFA 802, Thesis, in the MFA in Dance Graduate Program Summer 2024.

June 3 through June 28, 2024

Monday through Friday 7-10PM and Saturday 5-10PM

This course will be taught in person, on campus.

The MFA in Dance Program is a 9 semester, in-person and online program with classes for Creative Practice and Design and Production for Dance. The courses are designed around faculty mentoring, collaboration and collective communication with a somatic and social justice focus.

The duties for the course are to meet with up to two students one-on-one, and work on their thesis. Meetings during the summer semester will establish student plans as they work on both the performance and written part of their thesis. The thesis chair will read the final paper and be one of the responsible parties for signing off thesis completion and reading the final paper.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: A master's degree in a field closely related to dance, design or other related field.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning and student-centered teaching in the liberal arts.

Applicants must reside in California.

Salary: $7,447 - $10,008 depending on qualifications.
