The Division of Student Affairs is the 3rd largest of 9 divisions at UNC Charlotte with over 500 employees and 20 departments. There are a range of programs and services that support students’ physical and mental wellbeing, introduce them to campus life and Niner Nation and develop skills and competencies that employers desire. The Program Director for Outreach and Engagement is the first point of contact for military-affiliated students seeking enrollment at UNC Charlotte. Responsible for assisting in the recruitment of prospective military affiliated students, the Program Director helps prospective students navigate the complex Veteran Affairs education benefits and the UNC Charlotte administrative and admissions process. The Program Director will plan, implement, and administer programs and initiatives designed to target, recruit and enroll new students.


The Program Director is responsible for recruiting prospective students, following up on leads, providing VA benefit navigation assistant, and guiding students through the enrollment process.  The Director will participate in on-campus and off-campus educational fairs, career development fairs, information sessions, and other selected events at military installations, community colleges, and Veteran Service Organizations, etc.  The selected candidate is expected to manage the workflow of prospective students quickly and efficiently, by connecting prospective students to the appropriate office for assistance across campus.  The Program Director is responsible for achieving delineated recruitment goals.

The selected candidate will be expected to become knowledgeable of UNC Charlotte, the Veteran Services Office, and North Carolina system military- affiliated student benefits and policies.  The Program Director is required to communicate policies, procedures, and opportunities available at the university to students, family members and student supporters, military education personnel, and community college partners.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working directly with military affiliated students in higher education or comparable non-profit organization.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, advancing, or enhancing programs, services, and organization climate for military affiliated students.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and work non-traditional hours as needed, a valid driver’s license is required.
