The Event Set Up Crew position is responsible for the timely/accurate setup of meetings and events throughout the Towson University campus. Events vary in size from a simple meeting of a few people to Towson University’s Commencement with over 4000 attendees. They perform a wide variety of manual labor activities specifically related to the setup and breakdown of tables, stages, chairs, and other event related equipment. The hours for this position are Wednesday 7:00am-3:30pm, Thursday 7:00am-3:30pm, Friday 7:00am-3:30pm, Saturday 7:00am-3:30pm, and Sunday 7:00am-3:30pm.

 

The mission of the Event & Conference Services department is to provide scheduling, planning, coordination, execution, and management for all events on the Towson University campus. The department is also responsible for administering the Summer Conference program; utilizing campus residence halls for lodging, as well as auxiliary and academic facilities for meetings and conference events over the summer months. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Using good judgment, perform setup and breakdown of event related equipment throughout the Towson University campus in a timely/accurate fashion. Event-related equipment consists of tables, chairs, staging, and other equipment. To the best of their abilities follow instructions to ensure proper room set-up of equipment and make suggestions related to event set-ups thus contributing to the success of events.  
  • Assist in the equipment inventory control function, assuring there is sufficient inventory on hand to meet event needs. Conduct routine tours of the university buildings and grounds noting and returning Event & Conference Service equipment to proper storage areas. Routinely straighten/organize Event and Conference Services storerooms. Routinely inspect condition of set up equipment, reporting equipment in need of repair to Set Up Operations Manager. Suggest new or replacement equipment assisting the efficiency of the department.
  • Determine event set up timelines - considering room and event schedules thus assuring timely completion of event set ups. As required, organize and assign work orders to student employees to set up various evening and weekend events.
  • Deliver event equipment and supplies to various locations on campus using authorized University vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles, pickup trucks, and commercial delivery vehicles. Safely secure equipment when moving in University vehicles.
  • Assist in the control of department's moving equipment consisting of dollies, hand trucks, flatbed carts and table/chairs. Communicate any equipment in need of purchase or repair to the Set-Up Operations Manager.
  • Carry out the general duties associated with the position to maintain efficient and effective realization of departmental goals and assist with the successful execution of events. Perform other duties as assigned.  
  • Assist with the setup/breakdown of large university events in TU Arena. These setups may occur during
    regular scheduled hours or may involve overtime.

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations; to follow instructions; and operate assigned tools and power equipment.  
  • Ability to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.  
  • Valid Maryland Driver's Noncommercial Class C driver’s license and Federal DOT requirement of physical examination necessary to drive certain University vehicles. 

 Salary and Benefits 

$36,208 annually and full University benefits that include annual leave, up to 14 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
