Three Anticipated Positions
Primary Responsibilities:

The Residence Hall Director (RHD) position is a Graduate-Assistant level, live-in, twelve
month position within the Department of Residential Life. As the primary live-in staff member for an assigned sophomore or upperclassmen residential area, the RHD is charged with the responsibility to develop a supportive educational environment that fosters learning outside of the classroom, develops students holistically, and supports the academic success and retention of residential students. The RHD is an integral member of the Residential Life team; he or she understands and upholds not only the department's mission, but the University's mission as well and respects its Catholic values and identity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As the primary live-in Residential Life staff member for the assigned residential community, the RHD is responsible for:

  • Promotion of resident student development and community formation
    • Supervise the programmatic initiatives aiding in community development
    • Positively interact with residents individually and in group settings
    • Track student retention using University retention software
  • Selection, training, supervision, & evaluation of Resident Success Assistant Staff
    • Supervise up to seven Resident Success Assistants
    • Overseeing the development of their individual areas
    • Build staff cohesion via regular supervisory meetings & on-going training
    • Execute departmental evaluation process for staff members in assigned area
  • Serve as a local judicial officer and crisis/emergency responder
    • Perform judicial hearings for residents in assigned area
    • Actively participate in the Central Office Duty Rotation
    • Respond to emergency incidents in residential facilities
  • Residence Hall and Departmental Administration
    • Prepare and facilitate the opening and closing of residential facilities
    • Monitor and track facility and operational needs
    • Maintain regular office hours in assigned area and Central Office
    • Form working relationships with other offices on campus aiding in the student development process
  • Other Residential Life departmental responsibilities:
    • Assistance with department-wide functions, programs, and initiatives
    • Participation with university and division-wide committees and projects
    • Other related responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus Admission and Enrollment in a Graduate degree program at Sacred Heart University (application and acceptance to University may happen after interview and position offer)
  • Interest & ability to live in and lead a residential student community
  • Experience in student development and leadership. Prior experience as live-in residential assistant or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills
  • Valid driver's license & access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to make 2 year commitment

Compensation (Yearly): $14,000. Furnished 1 bedroom apartment, cable television, wifi, $1,000 dining dollars during each Falla and Spring academic semesters, and a tuition waiver of $15,000 per academic year.
