Saint Mary's College invites applications for three tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank to start July 2024. These positions are a part of a new campus-wide multi-year cluster initiative, for a total of five hires in two years, that spans across the School of Economics and Business Administration and the School of Science around the theme of Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Society. With targeted hiring we aim to attract and support a diverse cohort of teacher-scholars who will produce multidisciplinary collaboration and innovative curriculum design. The new faculty members are also expected to participate in College governance and service and provide support in the cluster hire initiative. A successful candidate will have a clear commitment to excellence and growth in teaching and a passion for education in a Liberal Arts context.

 

To support this cluster theme, preference will be given to candidates with expertise in all areas of Artificial Intelligence including those concerned with AI, ethics and the impact of AI on Society, as well as Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Statistics, Information Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Decision Science, Computational Science, or Symbolic AI. Exceptional candidates with expertise in other areas and a strong interest in teaching and research in areas of Computer Science or Data Science may also be given consideration.

 

Saint Mary's faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and demonstrate intellectual growth and significant achievement appropriate to their field. All faculty serve the College and community in many ways, such as academic advising, student and community outreach, participation in departmental and College-wide committees, and the development and assessment of the College's Core Curriculum. Faculty are also encouraged to teach in the College's Core Curriculum, January Term, and Collegiate Seminar programs.

In addition to base pay, salary supplementals are offered for these disciplines and determined by current Faculty Salary policies in consultation with the Dean and Provost.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required qualifications

 

A Ph.D. in a field related to Computer Science, Data Science or Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Information Science, Cognitive Science, Decision Science or Statistics, by the time of appointment.

 

Demonstrated record of teaching with clear evidence of teaching potential. Experience as a graduate teaching assistant will be considered.

 

Demonstrated record of research potential and an established vision for future research in areas pertaining to the cluster theme.

 

Knowledge of diversity issues and concerns in the computing and data professions.

 

Demonstrated experience in mentoring underrepresented students in the sciences and knowledge of the ways that minoritized groups have been marginalized in computing and data fields and their applications and approaches to address these issues.

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience with curricular and program development.

 

Experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
