Adjunct Instructor - Video & TV

The American Studies/Media & Communications Department at SUNY Old Westbury regularly seeks to hire adjunct instructors to teach courses as needed.

Currently, we are seeking an adjunct to teach the following undergraduate level course in the Fall 2024 semester that runs from August 26, 2024 through December 18, 2024.

AS3247 - Intro to Video & TV

Thursdays 2:40-6:10pm in person -or- Tuesdays 4:30-8pm in person

In this introductory course, students will learn the basics of television and video production: camera operation, sound, lighting and editing for field and studio production. Through hands-on workshops, screenings, lectures and readings, students will explore the visual language of the moving image as well as the conventional and experimental approaches to non-fiction video, students will learn to use moving images and sound for artistic expression and as a tool for effective communication. Students will complete individual video projects shot in the field as well as a collaborative TV broadcast project produced in the television studio.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in journalism, media or equivalent degree in a related field. 
  • Ability to teach basics of TV and video production and post-production (i.e., Field Video Cameras, Black Magic Studio Cameras, Adobe Premier Pro). 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Professional experience in TV/video.  
  • Experience teaching media production. 
  • Experience teaching or mentoring an ethnically diverse, working student body.
