Adjunct Instructor - Documentary Video Production

The American Studies Department at SUNY Old Westbury seeks to hire an adjunct instructor to teach AS4852 Advanced Video: Documentary in the Fall 2024 semester.  The American Studies Department offers an interdisciplinary B.A. degree in American Studies as well as a B.A. degree in Media and Communications.  This course meets a production requirement for Media and Communications majors.

Candidates for adjunct positions should have a record of high-quality teaching in support of the College Mission.

AS4852 Advanced Video: Documentary - Produce, shoot, and edit original documentary videos. Explore the fundamental techniques of and approaches to non-fiction video production. Through readings, class descriptions, screenings of existing documentaries, and student work-in progress, students develop their own voices as media makers, moving beyond traditional structures and notions of "objectivity" to explore documentary as artistic social expression.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Media, Journalism, Film, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience.
  • Experience working with an ethnically diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching videography and Adobe Premiere.
  • Previous experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring an ethnically diverse, working student population.
