Description:

Saint Mary's College invites applications for a full-time Salaried Adjunct faculty member in Creative Writing. This role involves teaching 18-25 units in creative writing and serving as a core faculty member in the department, contributing to decisions on curriculum, recruitment, admissions and program development, and representing the program at public events. Saint Mary's College is an officially designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), and the Department is therefore particularly interested in candidates whose work engages with Latinx communities, and who has experience mentoring Latinx students and creating inclusive learning opportunities for a diverse student body.

Faculty Responsibilities:

 

This full-time faculty member will normally teach 18-25 units annually in both Creative Nonfiction and Fiction at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

 

In addition to teaching and other regular full-time faculty service expectations, this faculty member will play a key role in developing the new Creative Writing Department, including through curriculum planning and course design. Faculty contribute to the mission and serve the College and community in many ways, including academic advising, student and community outreach.

 

Salary: $75,522 - $101,929 for a 25 unit workload, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications:

 

Minimum Faculty Qualifications:

 

MFA in Creative Writing or a closely related field;

 

Significant published record in fiction and nonfiction, including at least one recent (last 3 years) published book with a major press, as well as at least 3 recent (last 3 years) publications of works of fiction and nonfiction in literary journals, anthologies, or magazines.

 

Record of teaching excellence in Creative Writing, including a minimum of 5 graduate-level courses at accredited colleges and universities;

 

Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the graduate level in a small classroom environment that is student-centered, with an interactive learning style;

 

Demonstrated ability to support a diverse student body and multicultural curriculum, including at least one year of experience leading or participating in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within a graduate program community;

 

Experience helping develop curriculum for an undergraduate Creative Writing major;

 

Demonstrated experience mentoring emerging writers on a one-on-one basis on matters of literary craft and building a sustainable literary life.
