Wellness & Health Promotion Coordinator

SUNY Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY United States

The goals of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Wellness & Health Promotion include improving general health to enhance the college experience, retain students, and maximize graduation rates through population specific education. As an added benefit, student health promotion is in a unique position to help young adults learn how to manage their health independently as they move to the “adult” world. The Wellness & Health Promotion Coordinator works to make the campus healthier by connecting students to information and resources, cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors while fostering a culture that values and supports a healthy community. Assisting in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of a variety of wellness & health promotion initiatives for the campus community based upon sound theory and evidenced-informed practice of college health promotion as part of a comprehensive health and wellness prevention strategy for students is also included. Wellness and Health promotion programs include, but are not limited to, issues of sexual health, interpersonal violence prevention, alcohol and other drugs, relationships, personal health and safety, mental health, women’s and men’s health, behavior change, risk reduction, nutrition, financial literacy and self-care management and promotion. Success in the role will require a highly collaborative and creative individual. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing best practices in public health, health promotion, and/or health communication, and proven ability to develop and evaluate programs and initiatives. The Center for Student Involvement works to offer opportunities and programs for all students to be engaged in campus life in a variety of ways. We are a part of the Enrollment and Student Success division which supports a student’s entire collegiate experience from the point of admission through to graduation. We partner with students, faculty and staff to provide a network of opportunities and services that lead to student success. Collectively, the division of Enrollment and Student Success positively influences the health, safety and well-being of the student body. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs, and practices.
