The Student Government Association (SGA) Coordinator of SGA Finances & Programs position provides administrative support for the formal SGA financial processes and advising support to student leaders who manage SGA Financial processes. The Coordinator of SGA Finances & Programs is the main point of contact for all financial processes, and provide business management services to the SGA, including fiscal management of the SGA fee collection, and guides the day-to-day activities of the support staff. Responsibilities include entry level work in a combination of business operations such as finance and budget, procurement, and contracts.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Authorizes and monitors the payment of invoices. Resolves discrepancies with vendors or service providers. Oversees the preparation and processing of payroll journals, purchase requisitions, procurement card, accounts payable, and other transactions. Keeps student organization accounts up to date and processes the semesterly reversions of unspent allocations back to the SGA account.
  • Assists in planning and development of the SGA budget, as well as managing the SGA financial operations, including allocating expenditures, tracking balances, identifying problem areas, and recommending changes. Prepares activity, financial, and annual reports, or analyses, and monitors financial trends. Maintains the SGA Working Fund including the preparation of checks and processing of reimbursements to checking account from the state of Maryland.
  • Advises and works with SGA executive officers in the review, updating, and enforcement of SGA financial policies, articulates and enforces university expectations regarding records, reports, controls, and conditions for expenditure of funds.
  • Manages creation, maintenance, and reconciliation of accounts using bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks and Stratus Financials.                
  • Supervises a graduate level student employee.
  • Develops and delivers presentations related to student organization financial processes and systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing. 

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of experience.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Skills in the following areas: basic analytics, basic mathematics, organizing and executing multiple assignments, and planning and supervising others.
  • Abilities in the following: understand and interpret university policy and procedures, communicate effectively, operate office equipment, and handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.

 

Preferred:

  • One year of finance related experience. 
  • Progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and personnel work, one year of which involves supervision.

 Salary and Benefits 

Targeted Hiring Range is $53,000 - $58,000 and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
