Assistant Director of Visual & Creative Strategy

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Communications, the Assistant Director works in close collaboration with other members of the communications team to implement multimedia content strategies with a priority on increasing the visibility of the University in the marketplace and the goal of achieving maximum exposure, awareness, and understanding of the University’s key marketing messages, campaign priorities, presidential initiatives, and brand.

Hybrid Work Statement
This position is based on our campus in Canton, N.Y., and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with some work-from-home flexibility.

Annual salary $58,459

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain high standards for the University’s visual brand with the explicit goal of delivering the best possible presentation of the distinguishing attributes of the University. Work with the University Communications staff to articulate these standards, and to achieve excellence in photography and video production.
  • Produce dynamic and engaging multimedia content that supports the content strategy of the University and can be used in a variety of outlets.
  • Attending and covering campus events and activities, including high profile events such as commencement, to capture candid moments and create content that conveys the Laurentian spirit.
  • Conceive, plan, and capture high-quality images that support the University’s print and digital publications including the St. Lawrence magazine, brochures, social media, the website, and news releases.
  • Conduct interviews and produce videos in many styles and genres for many audiences.
  • Consult with key campus partners and distinctive programs to manage projects and produce high-quality photos and videos.
  • Support the institutional website as needed, uploading, and maintaining content.
  • Support institutional social media efforts.
  • Use analytics and provides assessment of video and photography efforts.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in video and photo technology and recommends appropriate innovations to the Assistant Vice President
  • Manage the digital photo database.

Work Schedule:

The Assistant Director has a high degree of autonomy and accountability in running the multimedia operations and must be well organized as well as flexible. The position often includes night and weekend work, as well as travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years (including professional internships) of video production experience with demonstrated expertise in storyboarding, videography, photography, and audio production.
  • Excellent photography and videography skills, as evidenced by either a degree in multimedia and/or significant professional experience.
  • Strong creative and communications skills.
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with other communications staff and University departments to present the University image and activities well.
  • Good self-management and project management skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative applications
