Under the general direction and supervision of the TRIO Director, the Math Instructor, Upward Bound is responsible for providing meaningful enrichment learning activities in Math courses designed for high school students in the Upward Bound Summer Program.
This is a part-time temporary position. The summer program runs from May 28th, 2024 – June 11th 2024. Hours for the summer program are 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Monday – Thursday.

$1,750.00 contract rate for employment term May 28th, 2024 – June 11th 2024

Essential Functions

  • Provide meaningful enrichment learning activities in Math courses designed for high school students (e.g. Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus)
  • These activities are designed to broaden and enhance high school training through hands-on curriculum
  • Develop course descriptions, some instructional materials, and curriculum (some materials and curriculum ideas are provided)
  • Teach class four times a week (Monday – Thursday) for three hours (9:00 am to 12:00 pm) and one hour per class.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions

  • Demonstrate effective, positive communication skills along with the ability to efficiently assist students with academic-related work.
  • Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  • Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or pursuing a BA degree in education or counseling, preferably in a secondary math-related field.
  • Experience: Classroom or related experience working with low-income, first-generation high school students will enhance employment possibilities.
  • Skills: Knowledge of effective teaching/learning process
