Assistant Swimming Coach

ODU is seeking candidates for an Assistant Swimming Coach (full-time, 12 month) position. As an Assistant Swimming Coach, you will assist the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach in the management of the men’s and women’s swimming program and your primary responsibility will be the enhancement of it and the instructing and counseling of student-athletes in the program.

This position will assist in all aspects of running a NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Swimming Program. Duties include but not limited to: managing talent assessment and recruitment of qualified student-athletes, monitoring student-athlete academic progress. Other duties include: assist the Head Coach with all aspects of Coaching men’s and women’s swimming (practice organization, meet management and implementation of water and dry land work outs, review of budgets, assist with team travel plans).

Required Education: Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent related experience. 


Required Qualifications:

  • Coaching experience. 
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to the competitive sport of swimming, working in a manner that complies with NCAA, Conference, and University regulations. 
  • Commitment to the athletic and academic goals of the team, Athletic Department, and Old Dominion University. 
  • Strong organizational, communication (including knowledge and experience with permissible social media applications), and public relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top level collegiate, club, or international coaching experience. 
  • Recruiting experience. 
  • Collegiate swimming experience.

Conditions of Employment: Position works early mornings, nights and weekends. Travel required.
