The Assistant Director for Residential Education (ADRE) is a professional staff member within the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, the Assistant Director is responsible for the development, conceptualization and assessment of the Living Learning Communities (LLCs) within the residence halls at Towson University. Additionally, the ADRE is responsible for the development, refinement, and assessment of a residential curriculum model implemented by Resident Assistants (RS) and Residence Life Coordinators (RLC). The ADRE serves as the chair for the Residential Curriculum Committee. Additionally, the ADRE serves in the residence life emergency on-call rotation and is responsible for additional elevated on-call and community presence responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
Residential Education & Curriculum
- Lead the development, delivery, and assessment of an evidence-based residential curriculum.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to create and assess a set of curricular learning aims to guide the development of educational strategies
- Create and update facilitation guides for professional and student staff to implement curricular strategies, including but not limited to community engagement opportunities, roommate agreements, community gatherings, and bulletin boards.
- Create materials to assist RLCs and RAs organize and track implementation of the residential curriculum in their communities.
- Provide coaching and leadership to professional and student staff members related to the curriculum.
- Partner with the RA Training and Development Committee to ensure that RAs are trained on the curriculum and related procedures.
- Maintain records of curricular strategy completion across campus, including tracking roommate agreements, CEOs, community gatherings, and bulletin boards, coordinating with Associate Directors of Residence Life and RLCs to address instances where responsibilities are not complete.
- Create student-facing assessments to be delivered after the implementation of curricular events and initiatives.
- Chair the Residential Curriculum Committee.
- Create spaces for professional staff and student staff feedback on the curriculum.
- Utilize assessment data from student and staff feedback to continually update and improve the curriculum.
Living Learning Communities Development, Planning, & Promotion
- Provide overall vision and direction to the current Living Learning Communities (LLC) and themed housing options.
- Supervise the LLC Coordinator.
- Develop a multi-year strategic plan for the development and on-boarding of new communities. This will include creating the structure to propose and develop new initiatives and communities that support the University's mission.
- Collaborate with LLC partners to develop annual operational agreements, including learning outcomes and annual assessment plans for each LLC program.
- Explore best practices for Living Learning Communities and present results to necessary constituents.
- Meet regularly with the Living Learning Community campus partners, including faculty and student affairs staff. Including, but not limited to, individual meetings, team meetings, events, and programs.
- Partner with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to create and updates a promotion plan including physical print, virtual promote, and website management for learning communities.
- Provide oversight and leadership to professional and student staff members related to Living Learning Communities.
- Provide leadership for the application and selection processes for new and returning students in coordination with the Director of Housing Operations and campus partners.
- Collaborate with First-Year Advising to enroll LLC student in linked courses.
- Develop and provide regular training for all community partners, liaisons, mentors, and staff.
- Coordinate LLC RA selection with LLC partners, the LLC Coordinator, RLCs and the Assistant Director of Residence Life Operations.
- Manage LLC budgets, include outreach to LLC partners to coordinate the budget transfers to co-fund LLCs.
Supervision
- Supervise the Living Learning Communities Coordinator.
- Co-supervise the LLC Graduate Assistant.
- Collaborate with the International Students and Scholars Office to co-supervise the Global Village Graduate Assistant.
Other Duties & Assignments
- Serve in the Housing & Residence Life AD On Call rotation.
- Serve on the university High Impact Practices Community of Practice.
- Represent Housing & Residence Life on the TU Votes Coalition.
- Represent Housing & Residence Life on the First-Year Experience working group.
- When travel funds are available, submit a program proposal for local or national conferences.
- Administer and assist with departmental projects or other duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with offices such as University Admissions, Counseling Center, New Student and Family Programs, Academic Advising, and Provost Office.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
- Master's degree
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Thorough knowledge of student development theory and its application to comprehensive residential living and learning communities and environments.
- A demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to working with students, faculty, and staff to build diverse, inclusive, welcoming, and multicultural communities, which facilitate positive outcomes.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Salary and Benefits
