    Join a vibrant equity-minded campus community of educators whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. The Department of Music Education and Music Therapy invites applications for a Temporary Faculty Instructor of Music position. The position will begin in Fall 2025.

    West Chester University, a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is a public, comprehensive institution committed to offering high-quality undergraduate education, selected post-baccalaureate and graduate programs, and a variety of educational and cultural resources for its students, alumni, and citizens of southeastern Pennsylvania.     The Temporary Faculty Instructor will teach a variety of courses in the music education curriculum. The incumbent will provide in-person, face-to-face, on-campus instruction, supporting the academic and pedagogical development of future music educators. Classes may be scheduled during daytime hours. Potential courses may include:

    • Foundations of Music Education
    • Music Methods (Traditional, Choral, Instrumental, etc.)
    • Student Teaching Seminar or Supervision
    • Music/Dance/Art for Non-Music Majors

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate innovative, student-centered teaching strategies and show a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse music education student population. The incumbent will collaborate closely with departmental faculty and staff to support student success and uphold program goals.

    The initial appointment will be for one semester, with the possibility of renewal for future semesters based on departmental needs. A typical semester workload may include 1 to 6 credits of teaching, depending on program requirements and scheduling.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Teach undergraduate or graduate courses in music education. Additional assignments within the instructor’s area of expertise may be assigned based on departmental needs
    • Provide student support through regularly scheduled office hours
    • Attend and participate in Department and College meetings, performances, and professional development events

     

  • Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in Music Education or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in K–12 music settings

 

  • Preferred Qualifications

  •  

    • Ph. D. in music education or closely related degree; and/or
    • Previous collegiate teaching experience

    Salary per three-credit course is $6,941.43.
