Summary

The Washington & Jefferson College Cheer Coach falls under the spirit division of the Office of Communication and Marketing, overseen by the Spirit and Brand Manager. This is a part-time position with a stipend.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and runs practices August through April for 2 hours twice a week, except for student breaks such as the fall, winter, and spring breaks
  • Hosts a cheer camp for cheerleaders from 9 to 5 for 3-4 days mid-August to prep for the season
  • Enforces all policies written in the cheer constitution, as well as amending them with the Spirit and Brand Manager if necessary
  • Assists in the distribution and collection of cheer uniforms, pom poms, and other items
  • Attends sporting events such as football and basketball games to coach the team
  • Choreographs cheers and dances with the assistance of the cheer captains
  • Is willing to work evenings and weekends at various on and off campus events to assist the team
  • Works with dance captains, band director, and Spirit and Brand Manager to schedule appearances of all groups/teams
  • Assists Spirit and Brand Manager with student recruitment at admission events upon availability
  • Embodies the school spirit of the College with a positive attitude, excitement, and energy
  • Assists the Spirit and Brand Manager to brainstorm events and themes for spirit events
  • Creates a positive team environment that inspires spirit at sporting and campus events

Qualifications

  • Previous cheer experience necessary, coaching preferred as well
  • High energy with a strong positive and outgoing attitude
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings as necessary
  • Able to choreograph and block cheers and dances
  • Responsible and organized
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to speak with prospective students about the cheer team and its culture

Supervisory Duties

Together with the Spirit and Brand Manager, this position will supervise the cheer team.
