The hiring rate/salary for this position is $60,500.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Residence Hall Director (RD) is responsible for the overall administration of a residence hall housing 300-400 students.  The Residence Hall Director ensures the presence of an environment which contributes to a student’s academic growth and personal and social development.  This position is a full-time, 12-month renewable, live-in position that is designed to be a two (2) year position (renewable for up to five (5) years).

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the comprehensive operation of the residence hall to promote an environment which encourages productive community living, personal development opportunities for residents, and an atmosphere conducive to physical comfort and academic achievement.
  • Counsels students who have personal or housing problems with emphasis on being of service to students in the hall. Makes referrals to other college departments, such as Counseling & Psychological Services, Learning Strategies, etc.  as necessary.            
  • Implements and administers policies and regulations relating to residence hall life. This includes the enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the implementation of disciplinary action for violations of the Student Code of Conduct and residence hall rules and regulations. Assigns sanctions, such as demerits, fines and community service.       
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of Residence Life staff. This also includes the supervision of resident assistants (RAs) and Senior Resident Assistants (SRAs) and providing training for RAs the re-opening of the residence halls after breaks.
  • Coordinates with the Campus Safety department on all matters pertaining to student safety and security in the residence hall.
  • Collaborates as a team with the other members of the Campus & Residential Life staff in coordinating the annual plan for education and social programming.
  • Manages the residence hall budget expenditures for the assigned residence hall. Responsible for management of the furnishings in the assigned residence hall.            
  • Maintains individual hall and Residence Life Office hours as outlined by the Associate Dean. This includes campus supervision and rounds on scheduled evenings and weekends.  Responds appropriately to crises, emergencies, and needs of students. The Area Coordinator participates in the On Duty Rotation for Professional Staff within Residence Life. 
  • Coordinates the completion of tasks which are related to the operational aspects of the residence hall. This includes check-in and check-out procedures for Associate’s and Bachelor’s students, coordinates maintenance and housekeeping requests; fire/health/safety inspections; and other aspects as needed.
  • Assists with various aspects of New Student Orientation including New Student Move-In Days, New Student Meetings, and Teambuilding.
  • Manages all required administrative paperwork.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:

  • Previous Residence Life experience. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field of study.
  • Prior experience serving as a Residence Hall Director or as a Graduate Assistant in Residence Life, Student Activities or a Student Affairs related position.
  • Prior experience supervising student staff.
  • Experience with StarRez Housing software and/or Maxient Conduct Management software.

  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be available to work a flexible work scheduled as this is a unique live-in professional position that requires a mixture of daytime, evening, and weekend work hours. RDs are expected to be visible, approachable, and available at a variety of hours for both student staff and residence hall students.
  • Ability to occasionally lift items weighing between twenty-five and forty (25-40) lbs.
  • Regular work requires the use of a computer, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
