The Part-time Preschool Teacher at Dean College's Children's Center will support the development and implementation of a quality early childhood program including: the design of age-appropriate curriculum, organization, and maintenance of the classroom environment.
The College's Children's Center is a fully-accredited on-campus program for area preschoolers, ages 2 years 9 months old through 6 years old. The program is designed to encourage maximum development of a child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. It is a practicum site for Dean students preparing for careers in childcare, education, and other fields, and provides demonstration teaching, resources, and support for families and area childcare providers.
This is a part-time, 10-month exempt position. The teacher works Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except on Wednesdays, when the schedule extends to 3:00 p.m. to accommodate a staff meeting.
Position responsibilities include:
- Assist in the administration and operation of the Children's Center in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), and the accreditation standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- Work effectively as part of a teaching team alongside other teachers and lead teachers in the program.
- Collaborate with teaching teams to support the development and implementation of an age-appropriate curriculum that meets the individual ability, interests, and needs of children 2 years 9 months old through 6 years of age.
- Contribute to an effective communication model with parents, including regular consultations and at least one parent conference on each child every six months as assigned by the Assistant Director.
- Provide assessment data and documentation that contributes to the preparation of at least one written progress report on each child every six months, as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Director.
- Complete developmental checklists, prepare conference written reports, and maintain individual portfolios.
- Participate in staff meetings, curriculum planning meetings, and after school events such as parent meetings, workshops, and family events.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Preparation, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field, including four courses in early childhood education from an accredited institution.
- Preschool teacher qualified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC).
- Successfully complete CORI/SORI and fingerprinting.
