Summary

The Technology & Patron Experience Librarian will be responsible for ensuring that the library's services, systems, technology, and resources are accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with the college's academic goals. The Technology & Patron Experience Librarian collaborates with external vendors, library staff, and the W&J Information Technology Services department (ITS) to assess system efficiency, resolve issues, and enhance user experience for library services. technologies, and resources, with a particular focus on the library services platform, discovery service, single sign-on platform, resource sharing software and library web presence. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Technology & Patron Experience Librarian assists students, staff and faculty with their research and learning needs by providing reference services and delivering information literacy instruction.

The staff at the Clark Family Library will provide on-the-job training for our specific systems. We encourage new graduates and individuals eager to learn more about library systems to apply. While relevant on-the-job experience is preferred, it is not required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with external vendors, W&J Information & Technology Services (ITS), and library staff to maintain and continuously improve the effectiveness of library systems, hardware, and services to meet the needs of the college community.
  • Improves users' ability to access library resources by implementing changes to existing services and systems based on user experience assessment, as well as industry trends and best practices.
  • Communicates changes to and provides training on library systems and software for patrons and library staff as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Instructional Technology Librarian to support the college learning management system (Sakai) and other relevant instructional technology needs.
  • Works with the Head of Technical Services to support user access and discovery of e-resources, including troubleshooting.
  • Collaborates with the Archivist to implement and refine workflows for library digital preservation projects that enhance user access to archival material.
  • Provides reference assistance during assigned days, and weekends and participates in the library's information literacy instruction and liaison programs.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science to be awarded by June 2025
  • Enthusiasm and ability to learn new technological skills and tools and communicate this knowledge to non­ technical personnel
  • Familiarity with best practices and trends in library technology and systems.
  • Ability to assimilate multiple perspectives and develop practical solutions that support library processes and services
  • Strong customer service orientation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with a liberal arts environment
  • Experience or interest in teaching and reference service.
  • Familiarity with resource sharing
  • Familiarity with one or more image-based or text-based digital repositories (CONTENTdm, Omeka, etc.) and best practices in digital projects
  • Familiarity with MARC and non-MARC metadata standards
  • Working knowledge of one or more library systems in use at Clark Family Library: FOLIO, EBSCO Discovery Service, SpringShare, Sakai, ReShare, Hyku.
