Assistant Director for Violence Prevention - Green Dot Strategy

The Division of Student Affairs is the 3rd largest of 9 divisions at UNC Charlotte with over  500 employees and 20 departments. There are a range of programs and services that support students’ physical and mental wellbeing, introduce them to campus life and Niner Nation and develop skills and competencies that employers desire. The staff work to create inclusive student-centered learning environments where students excel academically and develop personally into their best selves.

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the implementation of violence prevention and sexual health programming by overseeing content development, outreach activities, workshop facilitation, and awareness campaigns. The Assistant Director leads the implementation of the Green Dot Strategy, a national, evidence-based bystander intervention strategy designed to mobilize students, staff and faculty to react, intervene, and engage in proactive behaviors to prevent interpersonal violence. This position will supervise one full-time professional and indirectly supervise a graduate level student employee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management: Oversee the implementation of the Green Dot Strategy, including coordinating an active training schedule and action-based events to mobilize students to engage in violence prevention. Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (student leaders, faculty, staff, and community partners) to promote Green Dot and fully integrate it into campus life. Develop relevant content for students, staff, and faculty, and revise training materials as needed with attention to implementation fidelity.

Health education: Serve as a Green Dot trainer and health educator to students by delivering workshops, training, and presentations on interpersonal violence and sexual health topics including stalking, relationship violence, sexual violence, and healthy relationships.

Team management: Develop and lead a multidisciplinary team of Green Dot trainers from all divisions across campus to support program implementation. Coordinate monthly trainer meetings, team engagement opportunities, and offer feedback to support content mastery

Supervision: Supervise a full-time coordinator position including setting specific, measurable and realistic performance competency expectations for staff. Assists with hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of peer educators, student interns, and/or graduate assistants

QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications are Master’s or advanced degree in a related field required. Most relevant fields of study include (but are not limited to) public health, health promotion, higher education leadership, social work, gender and sexuality studies, or related fields required.

A well qualified applicant will have two or more years of experience in health education with a focus on interpersonal violence prevention and sexual health education. Demonstrated work experience in coordinating a high-level program or initiative, preferably in a university setting; evidence of ability to provide leadership and problem-solving skills in analyzing health promotion needs of emerging adults, especially college students; and experience with professional speaking and presenting, preferably in a higher education setting.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the most competitive candidates will possess experience with supervision of professional or student staff; demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff; excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as skill in presenting effectively to faculty, staff, and students; strong ability to collaborate effectively to address programmatic issues and needs, while making independent, professional decisions and considering the input of various stakeholders.
