Executive Director for Financial and Human Resources

The Division of Student Affairs is the 3rd largest of 9 divisions at UNC Charlotte with over 500 employees and 20 departments. Nearly 6,000 students live on campus with another 7,800 living within walking distance of campus. There are a range of programs and services that support students’ physical and mental wellbeing, introduce them to campus life and Niner Nation and develop skills and competencies that employers desire. The staff work to create inclusive student-centered learning environments where students excel academically and develop personally into their best selves.
The Executive Director for Financial and Human Resources has overall accountability for planning and directing short and long term strategic financial goals for the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, this position develops key processes for the division and is responsible for reporting financial information to both internal and external stakeholders. All departmental budget officers will be dotted-line reports to the Executive Director and meet quarterly to discuss budgetary and financial goals from all fund sources (general fund, student fee funds, discretionary funds, and donations to the UNC Charlotte Foundation.
The Executive Director serves as the division's primary liaison with Business Affairs and Human Resources. In addition, the Executive Director is the formal representative to the Office of One IT.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director assists the Vice Chancellor in fiscal management of the division. (S)he must command considerable knowledge of the appropriate use of state, trust funds, student fee, and auxiliary funding models. The Executive Director advises the divisional leadership teams (AVCs and department heads) of limitations, regulations, and policies to maintain fiduciary integrity. (S)He develops and monitors internal policies and procedures to meet wide ranging business and student service needs. The Executive Director is responsible for recommending and implementing long-range strategic planning, goals, and growth projections which may impact on the financial wellbeing of the division.
The Executive Director coordinates with Human Resources in managing the division's Exempt Professional Staff, Subject to the State Human Resources Act personnel, temporary personnel, Graduate Student Assistantships, and student personnel services. (S)He advises the Vice Chancellor on personnel and salary matters. (S)He advises all Exempt Professional Staff hiring managers during EPS recruitment process in the division and approves all EPS staff hiring proposals. The Executive Director ensures adherence to and compliance with Human Resources required process for selection, recruitment, work plan creation, periodic performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Executive Director is expected to have earned a Master's degree in a relevant discipline with at least 10 years of experience in increasingly responsible related positions (preferably in higher education) and should have a strong working knowledge of accounting, budgeting principles, and human resource management. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Banner Finance and HR modules is preferred. The salary range is $120,000 to $130,000.
