The Towson University Counseling Center is accepting applications for a Staff Psychologist position. This position will provide a range of clinical and counseling services to college students and provide expertise, programming, and training in their coordinated area. The role includes involvement with our doctoral internship and externship training programs including serving as a clinical supervisor and providing training seminars.

We seek a psychologist who, in addition to having strong clinical skills and interest in providing training and a range of clinical services, will provide an innovative vision and administrative leadership in a coordinated area of expertise. Clinical Approach: Our center utilizes a flexible care/same-day model designed to provide timely access to mental health services for students. Clinicians provide a blend of brief interventions, same-day consultations, crisis support, and ongoing care as clinically appropriate, requiring flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and comfort working in a fast-paced college counseling environment that differs from traditional outpatient psychotherapy settings. Description - External
- Psychological Services: Clinicians provide psychological services to students and consultation to faculty and staff on both a regular and emergency basis, and when necessary, during non-traditional hours, including, but not limited to crisis-intervention, assessment, counseling, treatment, and clinical consultation in individual and group formats. Provide clinical consultation to students, families, and the campus in support of mental health. Collaborate in Counseling Center efforts to provide services in new and creative ways while adhering to agency standards regarding case management, documentation, and parameters of service.
- Participation in Coordinated Area(s): Provide leadership in the designated area of Referrals Coordination, including developing and implementing appropriate programming, policies, and procedures, tracking utilization, evaluating programs and services, and serving as a psycho-educational and clinical resource to the Counseling Center and to the campus. Develops collaborations and liaisons as appropriate in the coordinated area on campus. Maintains current standards, appropriate accreditations, and program licensure for the coordinated area. Assist clinicians and students with difficult referral cases, and maintain knowledge based on special needs, such as applying for Medicaid and other forms of assistance. Develop and maintain successful ways of monitoring, following up with referred students and assessing successful referrals. Maintain and increase the number of viable outside providers, recruiting providers to join the database, reviewing credentials and feedback to determine appropriateness for inclusion, hosting Community Providers Open House events and/or other ways of maintaining excellent groups of community providers.
- Training & Clinical Supervision: Contribute to the training of doctoral interns and externs by conducting seminars and other training activities. When assigned, supervises doctoral interns, externs, and/or unlicensed staff members in their provision of psychological services, in professional development, and in support of the Counseling Center training program.
- Outreach and Consultation: Provides outreach programming as assigned, including psychoeducation, health-education, and consultation in the Counseling Center Outreach Program, and assisting with recorded and online forms of programs and applications, including self-help resources, and Counseling Center web pages.
- Center Operations and Administrative Participation: Engages in administrative functions that support the efficient operation of the Counseling Center. This includes attending and participating in monthly staff meetings, engaging in administrative supervision, and contributing to agency planning, policy development, and staff coordination efforts as appropriate; maintains awareness of and adheres to agency procedures and operational protocols, ensuring alignment with the Center's mission and goals.
- Student Affairs and University-Wide Participation: Participates in the Student Affairs Division and the University mission in a variety of ways, such as collaborating with other departments on campus, attending university functions, and serving on task forces and committees as assigned.
- Additional duties as assigned.
The work hours for this position may include after hours and weekends as needed.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications - External
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work or clinical or counseling psychology.
- Full licensure as a Social Worker or Counselor in the State of Maryland. Candidates who are not fully licensed at the time of hire must obtain full licensure within six (6) months of their start date, with all licensure requirements completed no later than twelve (12) months from the date of hire. Staff who have not achieved full licensure by the eleventh (11th) month of employment must provide documentation confirming that all required examinations have been scheduled. Full licensure must be obtained within the established one-year timeframe as a condition of continued employment.
- One year of experience delivering direct clinical or counseling services in an outpatient, behavioral health or related setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a college or University Counseling Center.
- Proficient in Point and Click or ability to learn and utilize system.
