California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) a comprehensive public institution in San Marcos, CA invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its associate vice president and dean of students (AVP/DOS). This is an on-site leadership role.

Reporting to the vice president of student affairs, the AVP/DOS will be a key member of the student affairs leadership team and is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of areas including the departments of basic needs, civility, conduct and ethical development, Cougar Care network, housing and residential education, new student and family programs, ACE scholar services, college assistance migrant program (CAMP), child care access program (CCAMPIS), educational opportunity program (EOP), Project Rebound, and TRIO student support services. AVP/DOS is a co-chair of the care/threat assessment team, critical issues team, and cross-functional incident team. The AVP/DOS also serves on several campus committees, supports student rights and responsibilities, and advises the Associated Students, Inc. student advocacy committee. The AVP/DOS oversees a $3M budget, 13 direct reports, and 20 staff overall. This is an in-person role. The anticipated start date is January/February 2027.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $185,000 - $201,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Qualifications
Requirements include a master's degree in a related field plus eight years of progressively responsible work experience in student life programs, including significant responsibility for the development and assessment of programs designed to meet student learning outcomes, including categorical or grant-funded student success programs, within the boundaries of university policies and risk management best practices, which includes a minimum of four years leading and supervising the work of others; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in higher education administration, counseling, organizational leadership, or a related field and work experience in an academic setting, ideally in public higher education.
