The Department of Communication and Media invites applicants for a Full-time, 9-month, Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Communication & Media position. The position begins in August 2027.

The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in Media and Culture with emphasis in Sport Media Production and Strategic Communication. Classes and courses may be offered via in-person, online, distance education, and/or hybrid modalities. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching methods and demonstrate attention to the learning needs of the department’s students. The person’s experience, expertise, and specialized training will serve to strengthen the department's mission and goals. The faculty member will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure student success.
This is a full-time, 9-month appointment. There is potential for summer and winter session instructional opportunities.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses primarily focusing on Sports Communication, Production, and Media as well as other Media and Culture major via approved modalities. Additional courses may be assigned based in area(s) of specialization depending on departmental needs.
- Develop and maintain an active research program
- Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development, experiential learning opportunities, and student success
- Mentor and advise students
- Serve the Department and University community through participation in various committees
- Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
-
- Doctoral degree in Communication, Media, or a closely related field/discipline. ABD may be considered - must be completed on or before August 2027
- Demonstrated ability to develop or teach courses in sports multi-media production and studio/field reporting
- Record of active research and scholarly program
- Experience integrating the principles of diversity and inclusion in pedagogy and research
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing & verbally, and present dynamically to a variety of constituents

- Professional experience in sports multi-media production and studio/field reporting; and/or
- Ability to foster external/applied sports media relationships and partnerships; and/or
- Participation in student led community activities
