    The mission of the Department of Chemistry, part of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics, is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and student success. The Department offers bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD), Forensic and Toxicological Chemistry (accredited by FEPAC), and Chemistry–Biology. The Chemistry and Biochemistry degree programs are certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the Chemistry–Biology program is accredited by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), ensuring that students receive a high-quality education aligned with nationally recognized standards. Learn more about the Department of Chemistry.

    The faculty member will teach undergraduate level courses that may be offered via in-person, online, and/or hybrid instructional modality formats depending on departmental needs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching through evidence-based and innovative instructional practices that promote student engagement and success. The person embraces experiential learning through hands-on laboratory, research, and other high-impact educational experiences. The faculty member will collaborate with colleagues to support student success and contribute to the department's teaching, research, and service mission.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Teach undergraduate lecture in Biochemistry, General Chemistry as well as other laboratory courses in the Chemistry curriculum via approved modalities Additional courses may be assigned based in area(s) of specialization depending on departmental needs
    • Develop and maintain an active research program in biochemistry or a closely related field that engages undergraduate students
    • Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development, experiential learning opportunities, and student success
    • Advise and mentor undergraduate students, providing academic, research, and professional development support
    • Serve the Department and University community through participation in various committees and outreach activities
    • Perform other duties as assigned

     

  • Minimum Qualifications

  •  

    • Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field. ABD may be considered – Doctoral dissertation must be successfully completed on or before July 31, 2027
    • A minimum of at least two years of experience teaching biochemistry or closely related coursework. 
    • Experience working in or conducting research in biochemistry or a closely related field
    • Experience advising, mentoring, or supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students
