Created by the Oklahoma Territorial Legislature in 1890, the University of Oklahoma (OU) is a doctoral degree-granting research university serving the educational, cultural, economic, and health-care needs of the state, region, and nation. OU consists of three campus locations in Oklahoma as well as several centers abroad. The Norman campus serves as home to all of the university’s academic programs except health-related fields. Systems Specialist - Housing
Pay Range: Targeted Salary: $41,000 annually, based on experience
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (may include some weekends); Position is considered essential and may be required to work during inclement weather or campus closures.
Travel: May be required
Position Introduction:
Reporting to the Systems Manager, the Systems Specialist is an advanced end user who is responsible for system upkeep and end-user customizations in StarRez, a proprietary, SQL-based, relational database housing management system. The Systems Specialist serves as a report writing specialist and is responsible for annual system setup and maintenance. Additionally, the Systems Specialist is responsible for the setup and maintenance of student-facing online portal processes.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for general system maintenance tasks required each semester such as updating billing rates, reports, dashboards and email templates.
- Responsible for ad hoc updates of student profile and classification data, item statuses, etc. that cannot be automated.
- Write, update, and format scheduled and ad hoc reports in StarRez for internal and external stakeholders using SQL.
- Responsible for daily system maintenance and reporting (resolving duplicate records, coding issues).
- Maintain user data and access control, modify security settings and groups as directed.
- Setup, test, and maintain portal processes that are integrated with the student housing database software and ensure forms are optimized for student use.
- Configure, test, and maintain database automation processes/workflows.
- Manage data integration scheduled tasks, troubleshoot as needed.
- Create and update training materials and present trainings for Housing and Residence Life staff.
- Perform ad hoc bulk data imports; audit and maintain data integrity in StarRez.
- Develop and maintain testing plans, process documentation, implementation and integration documentation in collaboration with housing staff.
- Setup, test, and implement new software or additional functionality of current software systems.
- Coordinate with OU IT and software vendors to troubleshoot and correct system issues as they arise in a timely manner.
Position will be expected to work required overtime during peak periods of the year - in anticipation of application opening, assignments, move-in and move-out.
Position is considered essential and may be required to work during inclement weather or campus closures.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree.
Department Preferences:
- Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education/job-related work experience.
- Department preference for 36 months of data analysis and script writing.
- Previous professional experience with housing assignment software and working knowledge of Roompact or similar tools.
- Previous professional experience of application development.
