Performing Arts Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist (Temporary, Part-Time)

The Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance and the Schools of the Arts at Dean College seek a temporary, part-time Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist to provide clinical coverage during the Fall 2026 semester. Candidates must hold current Massachusetts licensure as either a Licensed Athletic Trainer (AT) or a Licensed Physical Therapist (PT).

The standard schedule is 15 hours per week, with up to 5 additional hours available during performance and production weeks. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a licensed AT or PT to develop or expand clinical experience in performing arts medicine, with a particular emphasis on dance medicine and the unique physical demands of conservatory-level training and performance.

This temporary position is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and continue through December 15, 2026.

The hourly rate for this part-time, non-exempt position is $35.00-$45.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct athletic training or physical therapy services to performing arts students during the Fall 2026 semester, including injury evaluations, treatment, and rehabilitation within scope of professional licensure.
  • Provide on-site coverage during rehearsals and performance weeks.
  • Communicate with the Dean of the Schools of Performing Arts, the full-time Performing Arts Athletic Trainer, and Health Services regarding student health and participation status.
  • Refer students to appropriate outside medical providers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate student health records in compliance with Massachusetts state confidentiality laws and FERPA.
  • Coordinate with academic advisors regarding student injury or illness affecting technique class participation.
  • Comply with Dean College Professional Practice Rules and Regulations and applicable professional codes of practice.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or required.

Preparation, Training, and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in a related field, required.
  • Valid Massachusetts licensure as a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) or Licensed Physical Therapist (PT/DPT), required.
  • For Athletic Trainers: Board of Certification (BOC) certification and active Massachusetts state licensure, required.
  • For Physical Therapists: Active Massachusetts PT licensure in good standing, required.
  • Experience in performing arts medicine, dance medicine, or sports/orthopedic rehabilitation, preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster an engaging, innovative, and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Demonstrate skills in interacting effectively with students, staff, faculty, physicians, and others.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends.
