Franklin, MA United StatesDean College's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Introduction to Sociology during the fall 2026 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.
We are seeking an adjunct instructor for SOC-113: Introduction to Sociology. SOC-113 is a 3-credit class that meets in person for 2.5 hours per week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The sociology program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.
The course description is as follows:
This course examines the influences of society on human behavior. Sociologists take a unique perspective in understanding how our thoughts, actions and feelings are affected by our social world. Through scientific research, sociology provides us with valuable information about ourselves and our world that can then be the basis for advocating for social change. Sociology includes a range of specialty areas including marriage and the family, education, politics and economy, gender, race and ethnicity. This course will introduce you to basic sociological concepts such as culture, socialization, social class, inequality, and social stratification.
Preparation, Training, and Experience:
- Master's degree in sociology or a related field is required; PhD is preferred.
- Preference will be given to applicants with an advanced degree in sociology or social work.
- Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience teaching first- and second-year undergraduates is preferred.
- Strong computer skills are required.
- Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required.
- Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required.
- Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required.
- Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
