Dean College's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Courts & Criminal Procedure during the Fall 2026 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

We are seeking an adjunct instructor for CRM-231: Courts & Criminal Procedure. CRM-231 is a 3-credit class that meets in-person for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The criminal justice program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.

The course description is as follows: The purposes, structure and functions of the state and federal criminal court systems will be investigated. The delicate balance between individual freedom and liberty on one hand, and public safety and public order on the other, will guide exploration of the role and responsibilities of criminal justice agencies, law enforcement, courts (defense attorneys, prosecutors, and judges) and corrections, at the federal, state, and local government levels. Focus will be on the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendment constitutional principles of due process and equal protection governing the process by which crimes are investigated, prosecuted, adjudicated and punished. Criminal procedure concepts will be actively applied in "real world" cases involving stop, frisk, search and seizure, arrest, interrogation, and identification.  Pre-requisite: either CRM-110 or HIS-112. Offered every fall semester.

There is one in-person CRM-231 section available. It is scheduled to meet Tuesday/Thursday, 11:00am-12:15pm.

Preparation, Training, and Experience:

• Master's degree in criminal justice or a related field is required; PhD in a related discipline is preferred.
• Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience junior and senior undergraduates is preferred.
• Strong computer skills are required.
• Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required.
• Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required.
• Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required.
• Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required.
• Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
