Franklin, MA United StatesDean College's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach Communication Fundamentals in person during the Fall 2026 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.
We are seeking an adjunct instructor for SPC -01: Communication Fundamentals. SPC-101 is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week. The adjunct pay rate is $3,300/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Communication program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.
The course description is as follows: This course introduces and integrates basic theory, principles, and practice of communication in interpersonal, small group, and public communication situations. Students expand their understanding of communication and develop their in-person and digital communication skills and self-confidence in a variety of situations. Learning activities include preparing presentations, engaging in dialogues, providing feedback to others, and participating in group activities.
There are two SPC-101 sections available. They are scheduled to meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 12:30pm-1:45pm and from 2:00pm-3:15 pm.
Preparation, Training, and Experience:
- Master's degree in communication or a related field is required; PhD in a related discipline is preferred.
- Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience teaching first and second year undergraduates is preferred.
- Strong computer skills is required.
- Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required.
- Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required.
- Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required. Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required.
