Old Westbury, NY United StatesThe State University of New York at Old Westbury School of Education invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Childhood Education and Literacy at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor, beginning Fall 2026.
The successful candidate will serve as the Coordinator of the Graduate Literacy Program and will coordinate and oversee the Literacy Clinic. In addition, the candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in childhood education and literacy, contribute to program development, supervise teacher candidates in clinical and field-based settings as needed, and participate actively in scholarship and service. Key Expectations:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Childhood Education and Literacy, including methods courses related to reading, writing, language development, and elementary education.
- Supervise teacher candidates in clinical practice, student teaching, and field placements as needed.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students in the Childhood Education program and the graduate Literacy programs.
- Serve as the Coordinator of the Graduate Literacy Program and will coordinate and oversee the Literacy Clinic.
- Contribute to curriculum review, accreditation efforts, and continuous program improvement.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Science of Reading, culturally responsive pedagogy, and assessment-driven instruction.
- Maintain an active research agenda in literacy development, teacher education, or related areas (Assistant Professor rank).
- Participate in departmental, School of Education, and University committees.
- Build partnerships with local school districts and community organizations to support literacy initiatives and outreach.

Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Literacy Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Childhood Education, or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered for appointment at the instructor rank.
- Evidence of effective teaching at the college/university level, or strong potential for excellence in teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Early literacy, Science of Reading, Writing instruction, Multilingual learners/English language learners, Literacy assessment and intervention.
- Experience supervising teacher candidates in field placements or student teaching.
- Experience teaching graduate literacy courses.
- Record of scholarship, presentations, or publications in literacy education or teacher preparation.
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including multilingual learners.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards (e.g., AAQEP).
- Demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction within B-12 and elementary/childhood education settings.
- Experience teaching in B-12 classrooms.
- Working knowledge of current trends and research in literacy education.
Additional Information:
Salary: Commensurate with experience, up to $75,000.00 (plus location pay of $4,000.00).
