The course description is as follows: Artificial Intelligence is quickly becoming a major part of our everyday lives, from Autocorrect to ChatGPT and beyond. But with powerful technology comes major ethical questions. Will AI replace teachers, doctors, lawyers, artists? How does AI affect copyright laws and the way artists are paid for their work? How does AI affect the ongoing climate crisis? Does AI threaten our privacy and security? How might AI perpetuate existing unconscious biases such as racism, sexism, and classism? Can we use AI ethically to improve humanity? This course will explore these questions and more through the history and ethics of Artificial Intelligence, from the 1940s through present day. We will consider a wide range of perspectives, from engineers to artists to philosophers, and put their ideas into practice through AI-related projects.
