    The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting all duties associated with successful coaching at the college level including designing, implementing, and monitoring sport specific strength and conditioning training programs for individual athletes and varsity teams. 

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to be a positive role model and representative of the university. 

    Responsibilities include:

    • Design, implement, and monitor sport specific strength and conditioning programs for varsity student athletes
    • Collaborate with coaches and athletic trainers to improve team performance and reduce the risk of injury
    • Coordinate with athletic trainers to develop strength and conditioning programs to support athlete rehabilitation 
    • Collaborate with Sports Nutrition Department to support athlete health including nutrition, body weight, and body composition
    • Teach proper resistance and exercise training technique
    • Teach proper running and weight training movements
    • Teach Olympic style lifting
    • Conduct pre-season and off-season fitness evaluations
    • Support strength and conditioning facility and team schedules 
    • Maintain required documentation for all strength and conditioning programs
    • Anticipate potential risks of injury, take measures to remove them, and, in the event of an injury, implement emergency medical procedures 
    • Assist in the maintenance of weight rooms, equipment, and facilities 
    • Train and supervise student employees and interns
    • Follow and demonstrate support for all policies and regulations of West Chester University, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association including NCAA policies on banned substances
    • Maintain professional certification per CSCCA and NSCA policies and regulations
    • Assist with administrative duties
    • Other duties as assigned

     

     

  • Minimum Qualifications

  •  

    • Two (2) years of professional experience working with college or professional teams 
    • Current certification in strength and conditioning by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach Association (SCCC)
    • Current certification in CPR 
    • Current First Aid certification
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends

     

  • Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related field 
  • Programming experience
  • Experience implementing plyometrics 
  • Experience with speed development and conditioning 
  • Experience coaching Olympic style lifts
  • Experience using sports science applications such as Vald, Gymaware, and Teambuildr  
  • Knowledge of and conformity to NCAA policies and regulations

    Salary and benefits are dictated by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) Non-Faculty Coaches Collective Bargaining Agreement.
