Position Summary

Join a vibrant equity-minded campus community whose excellence is reflected in its community, cultural engagement, and student success. The Department of Computer Science invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Computer Science to begin in August 2024.

The Computer Science Department, within the College of Sciences & Mathematics, is accredited by ABET and recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) & Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as one of the national centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance. The Computer Science Department values inclusive faculty who balance excellent teaching with active scholarship.

The ideal candidate will prioritize innovative teaching of courses while finding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in their research. Faculty teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses that are primarily in-person; some courses will be taught online or a mix of online and in-person. The faculty member’s experience, substantive specialization, and pedagogical training will serve to strengthen the department's mission and vision. The incumbent will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure student success. The typical teaching load is two sections of one class and two other classes for a total of twelve credits per semester.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in Computer Science. Additional courses within area of specialization may be assigned based on departmental needs.
  • Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications.
  • Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees.
  • Mentoring and advising students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph. D in Computer Science or related field. ABD may be considered - Must be completed by August 2024. Coursework must include undergraduate and/or graduate Computer Science classes.
  • Experience teaching Computer Science class, coursework, or workshop at any level.
  • Record of scholarship and research accomplishments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate course materials in Computer Science; and/or
  • Experience developing undergraduate and/or graduate course curriculum; and/or
  • Active research in any topic of Computer Science; and/or
  • Professional (non-academic) work experience in the Computer Science sphere; and/or
  • Experience with innovative pedagogies.
