The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the financial operations of the college, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance, and reporting. This position is responsible for managing fixed assets, processing payroll, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements. Additionally, the Senior Accountant collaborates with the Finance Department and the Office of Human Resources to support various departments with their accounting and payroll needs. The role also involves coordinating with external auditors and regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.


The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic higher education environment.


This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all aspects of fixed asset accounting, including recording in the fixed assets module, depreciation calculation, reconciliation to the general ledger, and annual budgeting.
  • Handle payroll processing by collaborating with the Office of Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely execution. 
  • Manage the payment and recording of payroll taxes and various benefits. 
  • Prepare and file quarterly and annual tax reports. 
  • Conduct monthly or quarterly reconciliations of assigned accounts. 
  • Compile year-end audit workpapers for payroll-related accounts, fixed assets, and other designated areas. Provide support to the Assistant Controller and Controller.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

 

Preparation, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, required.
  • 3 years of relevant accounting experience, required.
  • Experience using Ellucian Colleague, preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.), required.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, required.
  • Strong technical proficiency, analytical skills, and keen attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
