Kearney, NE United StatesThe Program Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life is an integral member of the Student Engagement team supporting the development and success of the fraternity and sorority community. Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement, this role focuses on advising student leaders, coordinating educational initiatives, and fostering an inclusive and values-driven culture across all chapters and governing councils.
The Program Coordinator plays a key role in leadership development, risk management, and event planning, ensuring that fraternity and sorority life contributes positively to the campus environment and aligns with the university’s mission and strategic goals. UNK Student Affairs seeks to enhance student growth, foster an equitable and inclusive environment, develop an atmosphere that fosters student academic and personal success, and provide outstanding services, programs, and facilities that enrich the student experience from orientation through graduation to achieve the university mission.
- Serve as the primary advisor to one or more governing councils (e.g., IFC, Panhellenic and MGC) and their executive boards. Support chapter leadership in achieving organizational goals, upholding national standards, and navigating challenges. Facilitate leadership training, workshops, and retreats for chapter officers and council members. Supervise chapter recruitment/intake activities.
- Coordinate campus-wide programs and initiatives, such as Greek Week, (admitted student day), new member education, and service projects. Foster collaboration among councils, chapters, and campus departments to promote unity and inclusivity within the fraternity and sorority community. Support initiatives that foster belonging and inclusion within the FSL community.
- Assist in planning and executing programs, such as recruitment, orientation, and leadership conferences. Maintain accurate records related to chapter membership, academic performance, and compliance with university and national organization standards. Assess program outcomes and contribute to data-driven decision-making for the office. Oversee FSL Graduate Assistant and FSL Student Worker. In collaboration with Director, oversee FSL budget and expenses. Manage external bank accounts for multiple student organizations. Work with Financial Aid Office to coordinate continuing student scholarships. Prepare and submit reports detailing fraternity/sorority grade point averages and recruitment and membership statistics. Assess FSL program effectiveness; implement Be the Difference co-curricular planning and assessment/evaluation initiatives.
- Educate students on risk management practices, including hazing prevention, alcohol use, and event safety. Ensure adherence to university policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal laws. Oversee organizational conduct/judicial matters of Greek organizations in collaboration with the UNK Conduct Officer. Respond to incidents and crisis management within the FSL Community.
- Provide mentorship and advocacy for students, emphasizing their academic, personal, and professional growth. Address conflicts and mediate disputes within and among chapters as needed.
- Work closely with alumni, advisors, and national headquarters to support chapter operations and development. Partner with campus offices such as Residence Life, Office of Intercultural Education and Leadership, and Student Conduct.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Experience in fraternity and sorority life, student activities, or leadership programming (graduate assistantship experience may apply). Knowledge of fraternity and sorority organizational structures, traditions, and risk management practices. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualificaitons: Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, College Student Personnel Administration, or Related Field Three or more years of direct supervision of Greek system and student organization experience. Membership in a national Greek organization.
