Lincoln, NE United StatesUnder the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Maintenance Worker II is responsible for campus grounds maintenance and may be assigned to a variety of campus maintenance responsibilities and assignments, provide support to remodeling and construction projects and other general maintenance assignments to ensure campuses are well maintained and safe for employees, students and visitors. The Maintenance Worker II is responsible for the care and upkeep of lawns, trees, shrubs, and decorative areas in multiple locations for the college. This is a full-time regular position.

Essential Functions
- Primarily responsible for groundskeeping at multiple assigned campus locations.
- Keep grounds clean from litter and trash.
- Perform, schedule, and coordinate maintenance of locations landscaping including mowing, trimming, raking, fertilizing, spraying, and irrigating all areas. Trim, prune, and spray trees and shrubs.
- Plant trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Support future landscaping projects including the Lincoln Campus healing gardens, walking/running paths, and possible arboretum.
- Address stormwater management and erosion control challenges on campus.
- Make recommendations for all aspects of the grounds.
- Provide guidance and input in the decision-making process of ordering trees, shrubs, flowers, and fertilizer.
- Operate, maintain, and repair grounds equipment.
- Responsible for training and safe operation of equipment while performing various essential functions of the position for self and other staff; lawn and garden tractors with a mower or blade attachment, forklift, sidewalk edger, mower with front-mounted mower blade, push mowers, weed-eaters, hand sprayers, snow blowers, chainsaws, and variety of small hand tools.
- Responsible for maintenance of mowing equipment and hand tools; oil changes, sharpening blades, filter changes, replacing bolts, bearings, tires, etc.
- Responsible for coordinating snow removal; Supervise crew and remove snow and ice from sidewalks, steps, streets, parking lots, driveways, and fire exits. Applies ice melt product to slick areas.
- Inventory; Is responsible for keeping a current listing of all grounds-related inventories in both the surplus and maintenance cost centers.
- Supervise grounds crew student workers.
- Assist in Materials Management Determine materials needed for specific projects, calculate costs, order materials, and keep records of the project materials and costs.
- Assist in the tracking of inventory, orders, and receive materials, supplies, and tools.
- Assists in general construction and remodeling using powered and hand tools and will ensure maintenance of tools.
- This position may be assigned or to perform other general maintenance, construction, or physical plant responsibilities such as:
- Opens and closes buildings, as required.
- Operates equipment including trucks, automobiles, tractors, mowers, and forklifts.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment such as cleaning filters, changing oil, greasing, and using powered and hand tools.
- Climbs ladders to perform tasks such as changing light bulbs, and gaining access to equipment and roofs.
- Perform basic plumbing, heating, and air conditioning skills including repairing faucets, toilets, water leaks, pumps, heaters, air conditioners, disposers, and unclogging drains.
- Mow and trim lawn with a power mower, or power trimmer, weeds, and trim trees and bushes using hand and power saws.
- Communicate with supervisors, students, visitors, and staff in a professional and accurate manner on a daily basis.
- Read, review, understand, interpret, and utilize blueprints and other schematic diagrams. Must be able to construct or remodel according to prepared plans.
- May be assigned supervisory duties for full and part-time staff.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping
- One (1) year of experience in vehicle maintenance
- Ability to qualify for auto insurance coverage
- Possess and maintain a current, valid Driver License
Salary
$22.75 per hour
