Purchase, NY United StatesManhattanville College is seeking a part-time Costume Designer. The Costume Designer is responsible for maintaining the Costume Shop and designing costumes for productions in Dance, Theatre, and Musical Theatre. The position reports to the Chair of the Division of Arts and Humanities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the Costume Shop:
- Organize and maintain the Costume Shop so that all costumes can be easily located
- Ensure all costumes are properly hung and stored
- Maintain costumes that need special care, mending, and preservation
- Periodically purge costumes that are beyond repair
- Catalog new and existing costumes in the Costume Collection Catalog
- Design, build, construct, fit, purchase online, launder, maintain, and rent costumes for all plays, musicals, and dance concerts
- Communicate with directors and choreographers regarding their costume needs for productions, course projects, and photo/film shoots
- Attend rehearsals to see the productions prior to designing costumes
- Build, construct, and fit costumes for productions
- Work with Production Manager to rent costumes if needed
- In consultation with the Production Manager and Directors, attend production meetings with technical and design crews
- Attend Tech Week for dress rehearsals to ensure the smooth running of costume needs

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in theatre or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 2+ years’ experience with costume construction, production space management, theatrical productions
- Knowledge of current costume construction techniques including machine and hand sewing
- Ability to work evenings and weekends

Salary:
The annual salary range for this position is $18,000. The schedule is part-time and from September through May.
