Assistant Director for Specialized Housing and Student Outreach

This position supports the Associate Director in day-to-day student engagement functions and specialized housing processes and assignments for Housing and Residence Life (HRL) Business Office. Coordinates HRL programs and experiences in support of both Undergraduate Admission’s daily tours, on campus yield events and travel receptions as well as Bobcat Student Orientation. Coordinates and oversees nonacademic year housing processes to include summer school, interim/break housing, international early arrivals, and post/preseason assignments. Responsible for contract creation, room assignments, and billing for nonacademic year housing. Works with specialized programs and completes manual assignments for both academic and non-academic placements. Collaborates with Athletics Compliance, International Student Services, Undergraduate Admissions, and the Dean of Students. Responsible for hiring, training, supervision and program development of the Housing Ambassador Program.

Student Application and Manual Assignments for Specialized Housing: Manages the winter break, May interim, summer school, and international early arrival residential processes, which includes contract creation, assignments, communication, and coordination of check in and check out processes. Coordinates international and athletic early arrival move-ins, including working with multiple campus partners to ensure early arrival programs have proper contracts, billing, arrival times, and meal plans applied. Organizes and disseminates early arrival communications to impacted students and staff. Manages multiple preseason and postseason housing and dining details for NCAA athletics. Coordinates international student early arrival check-in throughout the August and winter break timeframes. Works in conjunction with residence life staff for trainings and operational support for all unique check-in/check-out processes. Oversees primary management of numerous unique student populations’ housing assignments and communications while ensuring the Ohio University two-year housing requirement is met. Manages communications, assignments, contract creation, and updates for the NCAA student athletes and international students during the academic year. Provides direct oversight of the first level Housing Exemption review panel.

Recruitment, Retention, and Engagement: Collaborates with Undergraduate Admissions to develop programmatic needs and engagements in support of on campus recruitment efforts such as Discovery Days, Showcase Days, Experience Days, and OHIO Up Close Days as well as off campus travel events such as Rufus Road Trips. Organizes room viewings for programmatic days including staffing, scheduling, access needs, wayfinding, and custom service support. Presents critical information regarding the housing application, room selection, and roommate matching platforms to prospective students and families through organized undergraduate admissions events. Collaborates with the FYrST office to coordinate programmatic needs and engagements in support of Bobcat Student Orientation. Supports the Associate Director through collaborative partnerships and initiatives with Undergraduate Admissions and the FYrST office in support of the recruitment and retention of prospective and current students. Responsible for marketing materials and strategic communication plans including written, web, and social medial campaigns to align with prospective student contract and room assignment experiences, opening and closing information, and residential expectations and experiences for fall, spring, summer and break periods. Works directly with the Dean of Students for any emergent housing and dining needs for students experiencing homelessness or extenuating circumstances requiring short or long term housing.

Housing Ambassador Training and Program Development: Hires, trains, and supervises the Housing Ambassadors and develops programming and engagement needs that promotes the residential experience for prospective students during on campus visits and provides leadership and programming for Jefferson East End during the academic year. Recruits, trains, and supervises a graduate assistant staff member responsible for the Jefferson East End and developing programming that engages current students. Creates and executes continuous student staff training to advance the knowledge of housing, dining, and the residential experience as well as knowledge surrounding the history of Ohio University. Supports major university functions (fall semester move in experience, Halloween, Commencement, etc) resourcing Housing Ambassadors for essential support. Works in collaboration with the Housing and Residence Life Assistant Director for Student Services to develop student services responses. Participates in continuous collaboration and support of multiple outreach and response efforts including but not limited to call trees, the departmental email, and phone system including text messaging.

Student Affairs: Actively contribute as a staff member of the Division of Student Affairs that upholds the framework of equity and social justice and the personal well-being of the university community. Develop initiatives to engage diverse populations and remove barriers to engagement in Bobcat Living Experience programs and initiatives. Provides leadership, promotes collaboration, and facilitates effective communication across all department, divisional, university and community partners. Maintains current knowledge of the University, its environment, purpose, and affairs to be prepared to respond to appropriate issues. Actively participates in professional development opportunities and maintains knowledge of current trends and best practices within area of responsibility. Advocates and promotes diversity and inclusivity through role and responsibilities in support of department, division, and university initiatives. Infuses socially just practices into the work, making sure programming and trainings are inclusive and accessible to all students. Performs other duties as assigned.
