Job Summary: SUNY Brockport is currently accepting applications for a field and lab manager. The person in this role will support in-laboratory and field-based education and research as well as facility management for the Department of Environmental Science and Ecology. The Lab Manager will oversee the activities in the department's teaching labs (indoor and outdoor) - including procurement, set-up, maintenance of equipment and materials needed to facilitate teaching and provide a robust academic experience for undergraduate and graduate students. They will also assist with the above duties in a research-related capacity for the department and oversee our pond facilities. The field and lab manager will relieve faculty who are currently spending countless hours on these tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university..


  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, operate, and trailer watercraft.


  • Field and laboratory experience in an academic or similar setting.


  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills.


  • Physical ability to work long hours outdoors in all weather conditions or in the laboratory.


  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to pass University driving background check.


  • Current U.S. Coast Guard approved boating safety certificate at time of appointment.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • M.S in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related degree with demonstrated experience in field and laboratory settings.


  • Two or more years of experience driving trucks in varied field settings and operating boats up to 26 feet in length for work on the Great Lakes.


  • Two or more years of experience using and maintaining laboratory- and field-based scientific equipment, managing a laboratory, and/or previous service as a teaching assistant.


  • Experience in laboratory water quality analyses, QA/QC, and a willingness to learn.


  • Mechanical skills including troubleshooting/repair of machine parts, electrical systems, and general maintenance.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm

Salary and Benefits: Minimum Salary is $52,000. May be benefits eligible; more information at This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
