Job Description:

This is a maintenance employee performing skilled maintenance tasks and preventive maintenance associated with the Recreation and Wellness Center facilities. Performs maintenance for the recreation fields and equipment as well as on all buildings, pools, vehicles, and weight room equipment.

This position/classification may be moved at managements' discretion within the SDES division to a commensurate level position as determined by the VP of SDES of his/her designee.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performs grounds maintenance at the outside fields for Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Information recreation & events. Includes field lining & grooming, repairing of fences, goals, bases on softball field, as well as repair equipment/vehicles. General maintenance on pavilions and other park amenities.

  • Maintains a log for tools, paint, chemicals, and supplies. Conducts preventive maintenance and repairs for buildings and equipment. Repair and/or refinish walls, floors, windows and ceilings as necessary. Assists in site and job clean up. Performs outdoor setups and tear down of equipment.

  • Responsible for maintenance, repairs, or replacement of electric motors, generators, and mechanical components for HVAC, electrical experience, and pool systems. General knowledge in assisting with concrete, asphalt, and wood. Assists in areas of the RWC as needed to maintain the highest standards for maintenance, safety, & cleanliness
    .
  • Other duties as assigned.

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades; or a high school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of sports played by our intramural program and sport clubs as well as knowledge of field dimensions used.

  • Experience with vehicles as well as maintenance of buildings, grounds, and field preparation.

  • Able to work in all kinds of outdoor/indoor weather conditions.

  • Ability to get CPR/1First Aid Certification

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Weekends, holidays, and evening schedule adjustments may be required. Shift hours are subject to change as work load and/or areas of responsibilities change.

The selected hire must have a valid US driver's license by start date.

Equipment used in this position: Hand tools and power tools (wrenches, saws, drills and test equipment) 20%; Gator/Vehicles 70%; Other equipment as needed 10%

The selected hire may need to perform the following tasks, with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Able to climb ladders and work from a step ladder
  • Requires repetitive stooping and bending and the ability to lift 50 pounds
  • May be required to lift more than 50lbs with help.
