Field Network Services in the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) is seeking a Network Services Technician with expertise in installing, terminating, testing, labeling, documenting, and servicing voice, data, and video cabling infrastructure systems.


The Network Services Technician will be tasked with installing and troubleshooting fiber optic cable systems as well as voice and data grade Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) systems. Supporting the installation and rotation of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), maintaining both a legacy and new Wireless (Wi-Fi) plant, and the maintenance of the Cable TV (CATV) system will be part of the requirements. The technician's daily work environment may consist of a construction site, utility building, or academic building supporting faculty, staff, and student telecommunication needs. A small portion of this position includes installation and maintenance of network cabling inside of the University 100 degree plus utility tunnels.


The position requires familiarity with BICSI standards, the EIA/TIA 568 standards, materials handling, and safety codes and measures; a valid Driver's License; the capability to travel to remote University properties; and the ability to lift 100 lbs. of material from the ground to waist level multiple times daily is expected/mandated.

Minimum Qualifications:


• Experience with customer service in a team environment

• Experience with construction personal protection equipment (PPE) and procedures

• Construction job experience, preferably in low voltage communications


Preferred Qualifications:


• Fiber Optic cable terminating, splicing, and troubleshooting experience

• Ability to install and maintain CATV, CCTV, and UPS equipment preferred

• 1-3 years experience in low voltage installations, including pulling of cable and terminating high-speed voice, video, and data systems

• Bicsi Technician or Installer Certification

• Hubbell Certified Installer
