The Assistant Director of Safety will be responsible for managing and providing the overall leadership for safety, health and regulatory compliance for the Housing Department. The position will be the liaison between the University Health and Safety Department, Facilities Management Department and Housing. This position will review current processes for compliance, recommend future changes, implement adopted changes, monitor and report on overall effectiveness of programs. This position will be the key leadership position to ensure a safe healthy work environment and living environment for our occupants. This position will help with internal projects that are completed by our staff, contractors, facilities management or a combination of work forces. This position will head up on-site investigations for indoor air quality issues or other HAZMAT issues to determine root cause and remedial action.
Master’s degree and 3 years related program experience, or bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience is required. Incumbent must also possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of applicable OSHA and EPA rules, regulations and laws; working knowledge of test equipment used to investigate indoor air quality problems; knowledge of applicable safety principles, methods, standards and techniques used to correct unsafe working conditions;; working knowledge of database, spreadsheet, word processing and communications software strongly preferred.
