The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) is seeking an individual who wants to significantly impact the teaching and learning mission of the University of Notre Dame. This involves working directly with faculty and academic departments in seeking to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning through the use of the latest available technologies and global standards of learning analytics, including tools such as machine learning, AI, and state of the art visualization tools and techniques. The ideal candidate will collaborate with colleagues in the OIT Teaching and Learning Technologies department, other colleagues in the OIT, as well as the Notre Dame Learning group, particularly faculty in the Research and Assessment for Learning Lab, and teaching faculty who want to utilize learning analytics to impact student outcomes.


We seek a candidate proficient in software development and systems engineering to support our current infrastructure for data gathering, data analysis and data science. An interest in participating in a team conducting research that can be published in leading learning analytics journals and in co-authoring external grant proposals is desired for this position. This position also provides the opportunity to participate with colleagues in international standards bodies such as IMS Global's LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) standards committee and the Caliper Analytics group. Notre Dame is a contributing member to the IMS Global Learning Consortium.


Minimum Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications

-Experience designing, deploying, automating, or managing cloud based platforms

-Software development experience

-Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining data warehouses

-Experience with relational and non-relational databases

-Experience with extracting structured and unstructured data using APIs

-Experience with information visualization tools


Preferred Qualifications:


Preferred Qualifications

-Experience anticipating and satisfying information needs via engaging and story-telling data visualizations

-Experience with data mining tools and frameworks

-Experience developing online courses or supporting Learning Management Systems (LMS)

-Experience integrating third party software tools

-Working knowledge of machine learning algorithms

-An advanced degree in computer science, data science, learning science or equivalent experience

-Teaching or research experience in higher education is a plus for this position


In addition to the technical qualifications above candidates should also be able to:

-Communicate effectively and collaborate well with other IT and academic professionals

-Manage IT projects with multiple stakeholders

-Solicit faculty feedback on learning analytics dashboards and reports

-Work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures
