Blackburn College, a unique four-year liberal arts college with a student-managed work program located in Carlinville, IL, seeks applications for an Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Inclusive Housing.  The Assistant Dean will serve as a professional staff member in the Office of Student Life under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. This individual will be responsible for a comprehensive housing program for 450 students, administration of the Student Conduct Code, and coordination of the Student Life Professional on Call program.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership & supervision for a comprehensive housing program for a 450 bed operation in 6 residence halls.
  2. Recruit student staff and develop & execute a comprehensive training program for all residence hall staff.
  3. Provide regular supervision to residence hall staff (professional and student), and regularly participate in evaluation and constructive feedback to each residence hall staff member.
  4. Regularly communicate & coordinate with Physical Plant for all facilities needs. Coordinate follow up on service requests to ensure timely and accurate communication between residents, residence hall staff, and Physical Plant staff.
  5. Serve as Conduct Officer for all violations of the Student Conduct Code which call for less than social probation or suspension.
  6. Provide leadership for all aspects of student conduct including updating procedures, Student Handbook policy, and providing training to student hearing boards.
  7. Assist with student persistence and success efforts & support.
  8. Conduct programmatic and departmental assessment and evaluations.
  9. Coordinate and serve on Student Life professional on- call rotation.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree preferred, bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience required.
  2. Working knowledge of best practices for student success and development.
  3. Ability to motivate and mentor at-risk college students.
  4. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task is required, as are effective time management skills.
  5. Willingness to be present and visible on campus during evening hours and special events.
  6. Strong PC Skills required including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  7. High energy self-starter; must be able to take initiative and be comfortable working both as an individual and as part of a team.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to connect with various campus stakeholders.
  9. Ability to foster positive campus relationships.
