Senior Assistant Director, Postdoctoral Career & Professional Development

SENIOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, POSTDOCTORAL CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, Career Advising and Professional Development, to serve as the primary career services liaison for postdoctoral scholars. Will manage and deliver a range of services to enhance professional development and career competencies and strengthen partnerships/collaborations with related employers, faculty, postdoctoral organizations, and groups.  Responsibilities include conducting individual career counseling sessions; creating and delivering an annual calendar of workshops/events/seminars; developing employment preparation materials and strategies and print and online career resources; conducting assessments and evaluating data and outcomes; overseeing budget and preparation of external funding proposals; and identifying and creating relationships/contacts with employing organizations and relevant graduate student and postdoc groups/committees/academic departments/ faculty/employers who hire postdoctoral scholars. 

REQUIRED:  master’s degree in counseling/higher education/student services; four years’ career center or higher education experience related to career and professional development--preferably working with graduate students/postdocs--or relevant industry experience; understanding of science and technology careers; familiarity with career services’ online technology, career services management systems, and office systems; working knowledge of career development theory; ability to identify and assess career concerns from a holistic perspective; knowledge of the job search process for international postdoctoral scholars; strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; ability to multitask and work as a team member; self-motivation; knowledge of and appreciation for cross-cultural and bias issues and ability to work with diverse populations; and ability to collaborate with students and faculty, listen carefully and communicate tactfully, and establish rapport with and help postdocs develop their career plans.  PREFERRED:  doctoral degree, experience developing and implementing career and professional development programs and providing career/academic counseling, knowledge of corporate relations, experience with the MIT community. Job #18552-9

Salary range $75 - 85,000
