Position Summary:

This position is located in Detroit, Michigan and serves 60 students within a Detroit Public Schools Community District High School and Charter Schools. The Project Advisor position is a federally-funded TRIOprogram providing opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. This job requires a level of independence to respond to requests from Project Director, university personnel, school administrators, community partners, students and parents within defined grant regulations, guidelines and procedures.

 

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in social work, education, counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.Experience working with high school programs.Previous experience including recruitment, facilitation, record keeping, and program planning.Experience and comfortability in working with diverse students, parents and community members in a high school setting.Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented populations and ability to manage confidential information.Familiarity with university admissions, scholarship and financial aid process.Must be self-directed and a self-starter, ability to work independently.Must be available to travel to campus for trainings and meetings.Working and demonstrated knowledge of case documentation.Working and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.Ability to use social media outlets and video technology.Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information.Strong communication skills, including written, oral and interpersonal.Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and travel as required.Must maintain a valid Michigan's Driver License and proof of current automobile insurance coverage.Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
