The Assistant to the Dean provides administrative support for the Office of the Dean of the School of Professional & Extended Studies, and responds to requests and questions from faculty, staff, students and parents who are seeking guidance from the Dean’s Office. The Assistant oversees the Dean’s calendar and coordinates with the leadership team. This position provides project coordination for the Dean’s programming and business initiatives and proposes and implements new business processes as needed. The Assistant to the Dean is the first point of contact for many of the students, faculty, staff, parents and others who reach out to the office for support.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent
2-3 years of progressively responsible administrative experience required
Desire and appreciation for work in a diverse, fast-paced office environment
Ability to set and maintain personal and professional boundaries
Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
Preferred Education and Experience
Prior university experience working with sensitive information at an executive level is preferred
Multi-cultural experience and/or language skills, and ability to develop and maintain financial models a plus
Familiarity with American University structure, policies, and procedures a plus
