The Assistant Director works with the Director of Student Accounts in setting and implementing policies and procedures to efficiently run the office. The Assistant Director is the primary administrator responsible for identifying and initiating contact with parents and students who have delinquent account balances in an effort to minimize the outstanding receivables to the University. This person also is the primary administrator responsible for preparing the monthly billing statements, which is the collection process for over $750 million for the University. She/He is the secondary administrator responsible for federal compliance in the areas of: 1) refunds of Title IV financial aid programs and 2) student separations. These responsibilities consist of serving as the office's subject matter expert in these areas of federal compliance, staying current with changing federal regulations, and training other staff. The Assistant Director assists the Director with training and oversight of the Student Account Associates, including monitoring the day-to-day office operations and providing direction and feedback and also serves as a higher level liaison for the Student Accounts Associates to students and parents to answer questions regarding costs, payment options for their accounts (including financial aid and monthly payment plan), and refunds. The Assistant Director must have a good understanding of financial aid policies and procedures in order to know when to direct families to financial aid options to resolve student account balances, including developing a strong working relationship with the staff in the Office of Financial Aid. This person performs various office functions including, but not limited to, balancing, processing of audits, approval of account refunds, tracking and processing of special billings, and overall account management. She/He serves as the backup to the Director and Associate Director in their absence and serves as a secondary backup to the Student Account Associates, maintains awareness of the University's strategic enrollment goals, and collaborates as needed with others in the division. The Assistant Director may lead a department team or committee or serve on a divisional team or committee. She/He performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s degree (4 years)

• 3-4 years relevant work experience

• Knowledge of accounts receivable and collections.

• Proficiency in personal computer skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and function as a team leader

• Capacity to be impartial, compassionate, conscientious, and diplomatic when applying University policies to client situations.


Preferred Qualifications:


• Higher education work experience, especially in student financial services or similar areas

Additional years of qualified job experience may be considered as a substitute for some or all of the education requirement.
